evidence themes go in a directory below $PREFIX/share/evidence/themes;
if the default prefix /usr/local is used, the fishtank theme would
hence be expected in a folder /usr/local/share/evidence/themes/fishtank
If the --T (or --theme) switch is not used to select a theme, evidence
will try to load a theme called "default" -- usually a symlink to one
of the provided themes. Failing that, shelf and icon-view will be
disabled.
For information on how to create your own themes, see docs/themes.

engines

This directory holds program data (shared objects).
A theme usually defines varies properties (rubber-bands, icons,
background, and others). These properties come in all shapes
(a background for instance might be a PNG- or JPG-graphic or a
.BG.DB background-database). The code for loading and handling
these is not part of evidence proper; these building blocks are
instead kept in the engines folder. The reason for this is two-
fold. For one thing, engines for file-formats we didn't think of
can easily be distributed without having to distribute the whole
program with it. For another, this way evidence can only load
what is actually needed at run-time -- if all your backgrounds
are PNG-graphics, there is little point in having the .BG.DB-
handler present, and consequently, evidence will not load this
  handler, thereby conserving memory.

fonts

Some fonts for the sample themes provided. These fonts were
acquired on the WWW, where they were portrayed as being
available for download and use free of charge. If a font was
included as a result of misrepresentation, kindly let us know
so we can remove it from the samples.

icons

  See there.

efm

  A vintage efm look-alike theme.

essence

  An essence look-alike theme.

fishtank

  A light-hearted demo for use with the fishtank_128 icon-set.
Not necessarily intended for daily use. : )

green

  An early theme.

metallo

An experimental theme to go with the ento_64 icon-set.

nautilus

A simple theme based on some designs used in the Nautilus
  file-manager. Suggested icon-set: gorilla_48 or tosh_128

scorpio

  An early theme.

tosh

  Evidence's default theme.

transwarp

A sample transparent theme. Note that other graphical elements
(such as the bar-code) can be composed on top of the transparent
background. Also note that the tinting (and the opaqueness)
may differ in different areas of the background -- this is
achieved by placing a (colour and/or alpha) gradient on top
  of the transparent background.
